Answers to the most frequent questions, for players and server owners alike.

For players

How do votes work?

You vote on the server's vote page (the "Vote" button on its listing or in the ranking). No account needed, your player name is enough. You can vote once per player name and per IP address, then wait for the delay shown. This delay is checked by our database, not by your browser. You may be asked to pass a bot check.

The ranking only counts votes from the last 30 days. Fraudulent votes (serial votes under several names, automation, bought votes) are cancelled after review.

Why does a server ask for my in-game name when I vote?

Your in-game name is asked for every vote. It's used to apply the delay between two votes and, if the server offers one, to give you an in-game reward. It's sent to the server with the time of your vote, never your IP address. Some servers only accept votes made from a personal vote link, which you get in game (often with the /vote command) or on their Discord. Each link works only once.

What do "players online", "Discord members" and "declared population" mean?

They are four different things, always shown with their source.

  • Players online are measured by Rankserveurs by querying the game server, roughly every 10 minutes, with the time of measurement.
  • Discord members online are counted by Discord for the server's invite.
  • The Discord members figure is the total number of members of that Discord.
  • Declared population is a figure given by the owner, labelled "Declared by the owner". It never counts in the ranking.

An unknown value is shown as "Unavailable", never 0.

A server shows "Unavailable" or "unreachable". Is it closed?

Not necessarily. A failed measurement doesn't prove a server is offline. The game may block queries, or the network may drop briefly. The last measured value stays visible with its time, and a server is only shown as "unreachable" after several consecutive failures. Check the server's Discord.

Who can leave a review?

Anyone signed in, once per server, based on real experience of the server. The server's team can reply publicly. Abusive or paid reviews, or reviews posted by the server's own team, are removed by moderation. Reviews don't count in the ranking, which is based on votes only.

How do I compare several servers?

On a server's listing, or in the "⋯" menu of a server list, choose "Compare" for two to four servers, then open the comparison. Only servers of the same game can be compared, so their features are truly comparable. Your selection is kept in your browser, and you can share the comparison link.

Where do the opening and wipe dates shown on listings come from?

They're announced by each server's team, in the "Calendar" section of its listing, and aren't verified by Rankserveurs. Times are shown in Paris time. The "Alerts" button on a listing notifies you of its openings and wipes. If in doubt, check the announcement on the server's Discord.

For owners

How much does listing cost?

Nothing. The full listing, votes, reviews, events, statistics, team and integrations are free, with no time limit. Two offers help players find your server with its animated media, the Podium and Sponsored. They are booked by the day and can be combined. Their prices are shown in your creator space once you're signed in. No offer changes the ranking. See the Plans and pricing page.

How do I pay for a Podium place or Sponsored?

From your creator space ("Get on the podium" or "Sponsored"). You pay with your balance, which you top up by card and which covers small amounts, or directly by card. The summary shows every booked day and its price before payment, and the booking is only confirmed once payment is received. Until payments open, no offer can be paid for.

How long until my listing is published?

Right away. Your listing is published as soon as you send it, and its media as soon as they're processed, usually within a minute. The Rankserveurs team can later remove a listing that breaks the rules, with the reason.

My server is already listed. How do I take it over?

From the owner space, choose "Claim a listing". You prove you control the server by adding a DNS record (TXT) on its domain or a verification file on its website. A manual check by the team is also possible. A claim proves control of the server, not its quality.

Why is my animated media shown as a still image?

The animated preview in results is reserved for sponsored listings (a Podium place or the Sponsored offer), during the booked days. So are the video cover and the showcase video of the listing. Without that right, or if the visitor has turned animations off, the static poster is shown. Your files stay stored and come back if the right is restored.

How can my server climb the ranking?

By having a community that votes. The ranking is based only on the number of votes over the last 30 days. Paying doesn't make a server climb, because the Podium and Sponsored are advertising, with no effect on rank. The full rule is published on the Ranking rules page.

Transparency, reports and data

What does "Sponsored" mean?

It's advertising, bought by the day by the server's team. Two offers carry this badge.

  • The Podium has three places (left, middle, right) at the top of the home page, the ranking and game pages. A Podium card never has a medal or a rank number.
  • With Sponsored, the server's row switches to “premium” colours in lists and the ranking (its size and rank don't change). The server also comes first in the search results that match it and may be suggested on the vote page of a server of the same game.

These placements always carry a gold crown badge, titled "Sponsored" on hover and read by screen readers. Neither offer changes the ranking, votes or reviews. Their effects are detailed in the ranking rules.

What is a "Demo listing"?

A fictional listing used to present the site while it's being prepared. It always carries the "Demo listing" label, and its figures (votes, reviews, players, rank, sponsored places) are examples, flagged by the "Demo data" banner. Demo listings are not part of the real ranking and are removed in production.

How do I report content?

Use the "Report" button on the listing, review or media concerned, explaining the problem. Every report is handled by a person, and you can ask to be told about the decision. Public decisions (cancelled votes, suspended listing, removed review) appear in the moderation log, without personal data.

How do I appeal a moderation decision or the ranking?

Write to us from the Contact page, choosing the matching subject and giving the address of the listing concerned. Every request is reviewed by a person.

What data is collected about me?

The minimum needed to run the service, that is your account, your votes, your reviews and your preferences. A vote is stored with an IP address fingerprint keyed with a secret (never the IP in clear) and your in-game name if you enter it. The details of each vote are deleted after 90 days, only the server vote count remains. Audience measurement works without cookies. From your "My data" page, you can export your data or delete your account. Details are in the privacy policy.

Which cookies does Rankserveurs use?

The session cookie (to stay signed in), a language cookie and preferences kept in your browser. Google Analytics audience measurement only sets its cookies if you accept them in the banner, and you can change your mind with the “Manage cookies” link at the bottom of the page. No advertising cookies. The full list is on the Cookies page.
